RyoSports Tennis Player Notes FOR Jiaji:
Responding to Lobs
The Overhead is a wonderful opportunity to turn defense into offense.
The current video in your lower Player Notes panel shows how Federer uses both the 'overhead' and 'recovery run' shots to punish his oponents.
I've introduced both options and their techniques to you. Practice them. (You'll notice FEDERER using a few speacialty shots. DO NOT TRY THOSE AS YET. Practice the classic shots first then we'll go to those.)
Practice Session Reminder
Overhead Technique
Eyes focused on the ball.
Balancing hand pointed to the ball.
Racket up to the back-scratch position.
Feet adjusting for perfect contact.
Head kept steady AND chin-up throughout the strike.
Maintain a Chin-Up Follow Through (See right panel pics)
A consistent follow through facilitates ultimate control and optimal power.
The secret is: chin-up!
As you follow the line of the ball through contact, take your balancing elbow up toward the incoming ball - BOOM! - knock-out punch!
At the completion of an excellent follow through your chin will be in line with your shoulder - BOOM! - Feel the love!
Body positioning in preparation to strike the ball and body positioning after the follow through.
Watch video: notice how Grigor sets up his feet for each strike of the ball on the forehand side, as well as, on the backhand side.
Notice his rhythm: it is the same whether he is striking through the ball at a fast rate or slow rate.
Move Your Feet! Even when you have your technique down, you'll find your best tennis in your feet: get in the ready, get in position, create opportunity by moving your feet in order to execute consistent follow-through shots.
